Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers

~~    Writing to exalt Jesus Christ and introduce Him to others

The Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers (MFCW) has been chugging along for twenty years now. Hard to believe some of us were at our very first conference in 1993!

We’ve undergone some administrative changes recently that will effect our entire year but at the heart of the group, our goals remain the same: glorifying God with our writing, continuing to improve our craft, and encouraging each other to enjoy and to persevere in service to Him.

One change came about in part because the winter weather in Maine is so unpredictable and often leads to treacherous driving conditions. As we discussed this, it seemed to make sense to apply the winter change to the entire year. Thus we will hold our corporate meetings on even-numbered months. These will take place at Susan Blount’s home in Vassalboro. (Directions are below.)

Odd-numbered months will find writers meeting regionally, since our members come from several different communities across central Maine. If you are interesting in attending or investigating a regional meeting, please contact our president, Vicki Schad. She’ll know where they’re being held and can put you in touch with the appropriate leader in your area.

The full schedule for 2014 follows.

To suggest a potential teacher, speak to Vicki Schad, Susan Blount, or Freddi Ladd.

Directions to Susan's home:

GPS address:  2579 Riverside Drive, Vassalboro.  Accessible entry through garage/shop.

From Waterville-Winslow area, Susan is four miles from the Donald Carter Bridge (Fortins is on the corner). She lives in a white farm house on the left. Her name is on the mailbox. If you make it to the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship you've gone too far.

From Southern Maine, follow 1-95 and take 295 around Portland to Augusta, then take exit 113. Follow right and take a left at the second light. (You'll see a gas station; Route 3 is straight ahead). Go straight at that light; from there, the farm is eleven miles on Route 3 on the right. Susan Blount’s name is on the mailbox. You will pass Cornerstone Christian Fellowship on the right, just prior to her farm.

For those from the Augusta-Rockland area, at the lights at the bridge, head eleven miles toward Vassalboro. Susan's house is on the right.  (Phone:  207-872-2015)

In the event of very bad weather, check the website or Facebook page (Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers) to learn about cancellations.

The Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers was founded in 1993 by a small but dedicated group of men and women whose purpose was to glorify God through writing. Over the years, our membership has increased and is now a delightful blend of published and aspiring authors who specialize in telling the Gospel message using all genres. We enjoy monthly meetings and hold an annual conference each October, and those events are open to anyone interested in writing. The Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers is a member of the
American Christian Writers. Our current officers  are Vicki Reynolds Schad, President, Fredonna Ladd, Secretary and Conference Registrar, and Susan Peaslee, Treasurer. Membership to the MFCW is open and we welcome all who love writing, from beginners to published authors.

If you are interested in meeting us, you may contact us through this
website, connect with us on
, or plan to attend our annual conference in the late summer of 2014. For more information, click here.

On the second Saturday of each month (excluding July and August) we meet from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the home of one of our charter members. In our meetings, we encourage and inspire each other through teachings on a variety of topics, and we provide an opportunity for creative growth in reading and critique sessions. Our desire is to equip and promote writers who seek to communicate the message of Salvation to the world. We begin and end each meeting with prayer, and there's always plenty of time for fellowship and refreshments afterward. If you would like to visit our meetings, please contact our president, Vicki Schad, for further information. In case of cancellation — the winter weather in Maine is often challenging, after all — notices may be found at on our Scheduled Events and Facebook pages.

Each year, the Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers holds a one-day conference to encourage and equip writers in their presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the written word. For the first seventeen years, we gathered in the lovely and sublime settings of China Lake in the heart of Maine, and the city of Belfast on the beautiful rock-bound coast. In 2011, we met at a more centrally-located venue just off Route 95 in Waterville. For our twentieth anniversary conference, we'll be back at the China Lake Conference Center.

Our conferences are designed to inform, build up, equip and encourage writers — you! — as God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus — to complete the good written works He purposes you to do.

Since our first conference in 1994, we've been blessed to have keynote addresses and workshops presented by many experts. This is a partial list:

On this page, we introduce you to writers from our group published, self-published, and pre-published whose work reflects the principles of God's Word as revealed in the Bible.  If you discover anything that fails to line up with Biblical principles, please contact us.
